Nomination is on going for the Top 16 Faces of Kidapawan- male or female, fresh, young, good looking, smart and, of course, popular.

To be eligible, the nominee should be a high school or college student of any educational institution within the province of North Cotabato, ages 16-25. For out of school youth or college graduates, he/she must be a resident of North Cotabato.

The search, however, not only look the part of a figure but someone who epitomized all the good qualities.

It’s easy to enter. Just e-mail a solo picture with the nominee’s complete name, age, name of school and qualities to kidapawanbloggers@gmail.com. E-mail your entry on or before May 31, 2010.

Unlike the traditional search which needed preferred votes from a handful of judges, this one required popular votes from visitors/ readers of Kidapawan Bloggers and via Kidapawan Bloggers Facebook Fan Page.

Said assistance consists of 5 kilograms of rice for families affected by the calamity. The packed rice is among the initial assistance to be given by the government to the affected families after the Sangguniang Panlungsod declared the City under the state of calamity due to the longer period of the dry spell.

Prior to the said assistance, City Mayor Rodolfo Gantuangco approved the release of P7.5 Million from the calamity fund in order to help affected families. The City Social Welfare and Development Office has conducted a listing to identify would be beneficiaries.

The City Government is in tandem with the Provincial Government in procuring the rice assistance from the National Food Authority. These will be channeled through the Red Cross and the CSDWO and distributed to the affected communities here and in the entire province of Cotabato .

But are Peace and Development conginital twins? Can’t Development be attained under the cloud of conflict. My observation here in North Cotabato is of the opposite. That; economic development could still be achieve even under heavy rains of bullets and bombs.

Mindanao is bombarded with negative image, that the conflict between the Moro seperatist and the government is the main reason for the islands under development. The conflict to be strict though, is located mainly in central mindanao, where economic growth could be observe, albeit not in the whole region. Most of the christian dominated areas are enjoying the fruits of their labor, I will not speak for the other part because they, too, have their spokespersons to explain the pains and aspirations.

There are growth areas in Central Mindanao. General Santos City is at the forefront, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sarangani and a couple of small cities, Koronadal and Kidapawan, that are experiencing phenomenal economic progress, are clear examples of economic development under conlicting ideologies.

It shows that under the present condition, even without the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, a lot could still be done.

The MILF and the national government could focus on many of these things during Arroyo’s last four months.

This is a selection of wall and floor ceramic tiles products from Eurotiles, Philippines that are samples on display for sale in the SMA Lumber & Construction Supply shop in Lanao, a barangay of Kidapawan.

I’m so glad that we were able to visit the shop as I was interested in looking for some tiles for a small project at home. Whilst there we took some pictures to be able to look at them at home and to post them here so more people would know about this great shop.
